Roulette gambling is probably the most fascinating out of all casino entertainments, because here everything depends on pure chance. The game requires no special skills. In fact you just make your bet and wait the ball to rest on the right cell. But what a breathtaking experience! If you’ve tried it, you can’t deny that some magic is definitely involved in the game. No wonder why there are legends according to which Blaise Pascal, who invented roulette, sold his soul to the devil in exchange for secret of the roulette. There will be even more mystics, if you sum up all the numbers that appear on roulette, you’ll get 666, which is believed to be the devil’s number.
But if look at the historic documents, we won’t find anything about the devil, yet still can learn something interesting.
Roulette was invented in 17th century by French mathematician Blaise Pascal. But some historians believe that an earlier version of roulette originates from China, and that roulette history started before the game was brought to Europe. In 1842 another French guy, Louis Blanc added 0 to the roulette. This version became known as the French roulette. Later, in America the 00 cell was added and another type of roulette appeared – the American roulette. But the American roulette never gained the same popularity as the French, or the European roulette.
In the times of Louis Blanc, roulette was banned in France. So he moved to Germany and took it with him. It gained popularity in German gambling houses too, but then Germany followed the steps of France and banned the game. Then Blanc moved to Monaco and opened a casino there. And the casino in Monaco was the only place in Europe where you could play roulette until 1930.
Nowadays more and more people play roulette online. Modern technologies offer state-of-the-art graphics and an exciting experience and you don’t need to go to a casino, and meet other people you are annoyed by. It’s just you and roulette.
Roulette rules are quite simple. Gambler make bets by placing their chips on respective sections of the layout. After that the dealer spins the wheel and drops a small ball on it. After the spin has begun, players may keep making bets until the ball is about to rest in one of the cells. The ball will bounce around, and finally settle in one slot. Those who have made the right bet – win. Others lose.
